Workshop Information

Why WYF Workshops are different.

  • Class size is limited to six or seven students for individual attention and growth.

  • Students bring fresh work to class every week for steady progress.

  • Peer review is limited, specific, and constructive: everyone participates every week.

  • Only the instructor offers in-depth critique with suggested next steps building on strengths.

  • Weekly lessons are devised to strengthen writing using critical thinking skills. Methodology uses cognitive explanations to better understand structure, plot, character, and dialog.

Nina Skaya, Novelist, Short Story Writer, Benefits Expert

"Patrick’s workshops are designed to get you writing faster and better. His in-class writing exercises aren’t just your run-of-the-mill writing prompts. Every exercise is a new, brilliant set-up that draws out our best writing. I love that I’ll be surprised by my own writing and the sudden ability to use writing techniques that previously seemed mysterious. I always leave Patrick’s classes feeling smarter and energized about writing."

Michael Doyle, Screenwriter, Playwright, Actor, Brooklyn DA

"What sets Patrick and the class apart, is his knowledge of cognitive functioning, both from the point of view of the writer/artist and from that of the audience. He is an expert in this field, and his lessons are infused with insights into the creative process as well as the process by which audience members generate their reactions to a narrative.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the quality of the students in my class. To a person they are as supportive as they are extremely talented."

Sally VanDavanter, Screenwriter, Author, Painter

"Patrick’s class was a game-changer for me. His knowledge of all things writing---from novel writing to screen writing---is amazing and inspiring. In his workshops, he creates an atmosphere where we are encouraged and engaged as writers, and as peers, able to share both our writing and opinions. But, perhaps the most amazing aspect of Patrick’s teaching is his ability to understand each individual writer’s proclivities and needs in order to help them grow. My writing, and my joy in my writing, has grown immensely under his tutelage."
